A Very Different Whodunnit!

First, I must tell you that I have a soft spot for sheep, having spent many a sleepless night in the lambing shed. Since Three Bags Full is written from the perspective of a flock of sheep living near a small Irish coastal village, I found the premise fresh and intriguing. The characters are first and foremost, well, sheep, who set out to solve the murder of their beloved (at least by the sheep) but eccentric shepherd. The fun comes as the sheep attempt to determine the murderer from a motley collection of villagers. As the sheep wrestle with concepts like motive and justice, their investigation turns up the dark underbelly of a town and a shepherd with secrets, but those secrets are filtered through their innocent eyes. I enjoyed this book. I wouldn't recommend it to everyone, but anyone who likes rural life and a fresh and unusual approach to a well-worn genre would likely enjoy it.

Garbled and Confusing

I found the book confusing and garbled. Apparently it is a translation. Perhaps in the original language there might not have been as much confusion. The premise suggested a mystery solved by a flock of sheep intent on uncovering the truth behind their shepherd’s death. As the dialogue moved between the sheep and the humans, the story simply became too complicated. Random implausible acts only vaguely linked the mystery to the situation, such as the appearance of a missing ram whose vast experience manipulates the flock like a four-legged Yoda. I wasn’t sure the story was meant as a philosophical allegory or just a complex fable about how sheep might learn to function without their shepherd. I stuck with it till the end and was disappointed.

Well, I finished it so I'll have to give it more than one.

Made no sense. The real killing was never explained. There was all kinds of ghost/soul stuff I couldn't get. Certainly found nothing funny. If the sheep had been allowed to be more human it might have made better sense. Also that other killing...nope. Really cannot recommend, to my sadness. One reviewer said he didn't like this or the Catcher in the Rye, I also didn't like both!

He moved through life comfortably, with no sign of her for months, his business had grown to heights that he never dreamed of and even though he would never admit it, he was ready to settle down with Chelsea. But after being summoned by Emily again, and finally realizing her goal was to get him, he refused to sleep with her any longer. Outraged by his rejection Emily decides to take matters as far as deemed necessary. She follows Chelsea and introduces herself as a potential client in need of Chelsea’s service as a wedding planner, Eager for the business, Chelsea has no idea the wedding is with the love of her life, Camron Henderson. Even with all of her efforts, Emily can’t seem to keep Camron away from the perfect little Chelsea Roberts. When she discovers that Chelsea is now pregnant, all she knows is that she must also become pregnant, and when Camron won’t lie down and willingly do it, she decides to take it from him. Emily goes above and beyond to make sure her wedding day happens, and she is making sure Chelsea is there to witness her and Camron tie the knot. However, Emily’s evil deeds leave her in a pool of her own regrets… in her beautiful wedding dress… on the steps leading up to her long awaited fairy tale ending. There is a thin line between love and hate, but there is an even thinner line between heartache and insanity.

With parents from the Bronx and Brooklyn, N.Y, It’s hard for some to tell where her roots were formed and grounded, coincidentally either her parents in one way or another ended up in the Deep South, and Shaniqka Thomas, was born and raised in South Carolina. She started out as a young child singing and writing songs with her cousins, which led to poetry and later on in life books, novels. She has a passion for words, and the many ways you can combine them to make people feel and understand a different perspective. Her love affair with verses, developed a long term relationship with telling stories, and unlike her first marriage, she doesn’t foresee this bond ending. You can expect, the sister to My Heart Says This; My Mind’s Eye Deceives Me, to come soon!

Very good & relatable read!

This story speaks to the heart of so many women who find themselves at that point in life where they are ready to get it right & all together. She is ready for love, but willing to move on if it's not right! No more wasting time. That's where Chelsea is in this story, and just like in real life, as soon as we get comfortable in our belief that we got it together, the devil gets busy. I really loved all the female characters , they ranged from naive to deranged ; and you probably will personally know them all. The author makes the story so relatable, you are bound to see yourself, your girl, or your man in one of these characters. A very good read!!!!

Great read! Easy to relate to the heartache, pain, and confusion each character experiences. You even havr empathy for the deranged soul. Speaks to the fact that honesty and communication are important and love is not enough. But love can conquer all. Chelsea is a gentle yet strong soul. Would love to see what happens with Madi!

About the Author

Vaughan Evans has specialized in strategic due diligence since buy-outs first wafted across the Atlantic in the mid-1980s.

At the time he was working with the European leader in buy-outs, US investment bank Bankers Trust Co. He later joined international management and technological consultants Arthur D Little, for whom he led their corporate finance advisory work for private equity clients for ten years.

He has since consulted independently on business strategy, business planning and strategic due diligence (www.managingstrategicrisk.com) for a range of corporate and private equity clients.

His 'Suns & Clouds' chart – see the cover of this book and in detail in Chapter 6 – has become a recognized and invaluable tool in the private equity community for understanding the balance of strategic risk and opportunity on a deal.

Vaughan is the author of many successful books on business strategy and planning, including the best-selling The Financial Times Essential Guide to Writing a Business Plan (2nd edition 2015), its companion The Financial Times Essential Guide to Developing a Business Strategy (2013) and the highly acclaimed Key Strategy Tools (2012).

Douglas Stuart is Professor of Old Testament and Chair of the Division of Biblical Studies at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. He holds the B.A. and Ph.D. from Harvard University. Among his earlier writings are Studies in Early Hebrew Meter, Old Testament Exegesis: A Primer for Students and Pastors, and Favorite Old Testament Passages.

Concise & to the point

I was studying Ezekiel seriously for the first time in an online class and needed a commentary. I was surprised a little at how few commentaries on this book! However, The Preacher's Commentary -Volume 20: Ezekiel was exactly what I was looking for. Gave a nice overview and some depth to each chapter. Puts it the historical setting and did bring to light stuff that for me was a little confusing before. I would recommend it for beginners to the writings of the prophets. The author doesn't go into great depth of the language, so if that is what you are looking for this may not be the commentary you are looking for. I did enjoy reading it and found it helpful.

The commentary is well written and gives a good overview of the contents of each chapter. It gives a good overall outline of each section. It is good for light study, but does not give enough material for an in depth verse by verse study of the book.

This commentary is very helpful in understanding Ezekiel. Ezekiel is a rather convoluted book with visions and warnings similar to Revelation. The Preacher's Commentary helped to sort out the various elements in clear, concise explanations.

but I used to smoke more than my best self would like to

I'm not a major stoner, but I used to smoke more than my best self would like to. I thought buying this book would be more educational, but I believe I stumbled into the wrong wheel house. THIS IS A BOOK FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT TO QUIT, hardly for those who are just wanting more self evaluation. Aside from that statement, the book is okay. Dr. Tony puts each sentence simply, which might be best for some, but it doesn't dive in as deep as I would like. I don't think he fished out all of the pros/cons of smoking weed, but I think that might be because it was written back in a time when weed had a more negative connotation and that giving weed the justice it deserves might be bad for someone who is trying to quit. Overall it's a good general book on quitting, but might look elsewhere for a more in depth analysis of why people smoke and why they might want to consider a more moderate approach.

So..I don't normally write reviews but I feel that this one's worth the time. I've been a daily pot smoker for about 10 years and never really thought of it as an addiction. The reason why I really love this book is because I can feel a connection with Dr.Tony and it seems he really understands me and the kind of smoker I am...I'm barely on day 11 (which is a BIG deal) but I already feel like I'm accomplishing more. I'm actually getting to SEE the world and my family as they are. Not with "high-sight." I am so happy that I found this book and would recommend it to any pot smoker, whether you've smoked for 10 years or 2 years, it's really awesome to get to relate to someone who you don't have to be on the same "level" as. Thanks doc. I can't wait for you to write your next one!
