This book has two major flaws:
1. There are such significant copy & paste and other editorial errors that the intent of many sentences is unclear. Specifically, the Midterm assignment is almost incomprehensible. This problem worsens as the book continues.
2. Some of the data required to complete the assignments is missing (i.e. empty folders/maps download from his website). Specifically, the Select assignment has a non-functional map.

It could be a good introduction if the data were consistent with the text

The content of this introductory text is well structured, but the data supplied (from web locations listed in the preface) frequently does not match the data referenced in the exhibits and instructions. An extreme example is Chapter 9, Using Attribute Data, for which the example file's tables have no attributes! You can find the right tables, but it's supposed to be preloaded in the map files.

As noted by ARCGIS2014 above, the typographical errors which affect the instructions become more prevalent in the second half of the book. Some instructions appear to be holdovers from prior versions, as well, using slightly different phrasing of menu options.

Being relatively new to ArcGIS, this book was incredibly useful in helping me to clarify some of the concepts and issues I was having difficulty with. It is written in very really clear language that makes it easy to understand and apply.

I suggest anyone interested in philosophy or psychology of love to look for an alternative

Certainly not well written. The book is filled with errors ranging from innocuous grammatical errors to translation mistakes. As for the content, there seems to be a complete lack of knowledge as to how philosophical arguments are to be made, as any student with even introductory experience in philosophy can attest. Additionally there are many occurrences of injecting examples that disrupt and disorient the reader from the actual topic, they serve only as a hindrance to understanding. I suggest anyone interested in philosophy or psychology of love to look for an alternative.

Awful writing smeared on shallow thought

This is a terribly written book, cliched, repetitive, breathlessly slangy, and yet weird and unidiomatic. The author, whose English is obviously second hand and utterly lacking in natural grace, also indulges in thought cliches: references (such as to Proust and his madeleines) are painfully and thuddingly obvious and predictable.This is what happens when you try to write about a deep subject when all you have are ill-digested psychological "findings" and the thinnest possible background in literature and humane letters. An embarrassing addition to Sinnott-Armstrong's Philosophy in Action series.

Interesting questions but unsatisfactory discussion

Promising questions but book does not give interesting answers or provide the depth & variety of analysis, more so as it is supposed to be a philosophical book. Looking forward to the upcoming "Oxford Handbook of Philosophy of Love" edited by Ronald de Sousa instead. "All about love:anatomy of an unruly emotion" by Lisa Apigenesi may be a better choice for the love-book phile. And of course, love is like alcohol, best consumed rather than theorized, and you know it when u see it even if u can't describe it.

The book is down to earth and makes no attempt to justify the cause of the North, or to understand the South; he simply “tells it as it was from his involvement.” Noticeable is his total lack of animosity toward his earlier adversaries and he even relates amusing anecdotes of how they would trade coffee for tobacco across the lines. A soldierly respect for his former antagonists pervades throughout the book. A review by one of his nineteenth century contemporaries reads as follows: “The book is one of the most entertaining I ever read. The only fault I have to find with it is that it has kept me up too many hours at night when I ought to have been in bed. I never stopped until I had finished, regardless of the way the night was slipping away.” It is hoped that the reprint and new formatting of this old classic in electronic book form will hold a new generation of readers likewise captive.

Great series

I first read the book when it came out and loved it. To think of meeting not one but two gorgeous men on the beach is a dream come true. Each of these men are so different but it works. In the months waiting for the next book I had forgotten the author..... But finally I found this collection and am overjoyed. Its a beautiful love story but there is grief and tears. I sat with tears running down my face. Fortunately there is a joyful ending and three people end up back where it all started.

Sadie cannot understand how both these hot guys want her together

Sadie was a young woman who was on summer break before she completes her senior year in college she sitting on the beach crying her eyes out and a young man comes and sits beside her and asks if she is alright but she assures him she isn't and he lets her cry it all out and then he asks her name she tells him and then he tells her his name is Nicholas and she looks up and sees this hot guy she couldn't believe he was talking to her with snot and tears all over her face but they talk and then they go and have dinner and talk some more Nicholas tells Sadie about his sail boat he tells her he will take her sailing some time she says in the morning and he says early he had to meet his friend. The next morning early they go out sailing and Sadie is very excited and attracted to Nicholas when they get back to shore it is early so she decides that she is going skinny dipping in the Ocean and goes too far out she is floating on her back and hears a sarcastic voice if she needed help she flips over on her stomach trying to hide her assets but he has already seen everything because she didn't hear him come up he is smiling and ask her name he tells her his is Joel and she tells him hers she says that she can swim back Joel tells her it is a long way back and she can have a ride on the back of his board but she doesn't like his smart mouth and starts to swim back she get cut on some coral and finally gets on the back of his board they make it back to shore and she is embarrassed Joel eventually leaves her on her own but is concerned because he leg is still bleeding. This is a pretty interesting, humorous, heart wrenching love story between Sadie, Nicholas and Joel. I received a copy for an honest review.

I received this book free as an ARC for my honest review.

Sadie meets Nicolas on the beach while she is remember her mother 12 month after her death. Sadie also meets Joel while he rescues her while skinny dipping. Little does she know they are best mates, live together and own their own business. What starts as a threesome on holidays ends pretty quickly as Sadie realises it’s not easy being ‘friends with benefits’. The story evolves with Sadie doing an Internship at Hardwick & Lawson which is Nicholas and Joel’s company, with Sadie finding out who her father is, someone trying to sabotage her University degree, a pregnancy, losing 2 friends and a death this book has enough twists to keep me up reading all night.

Network Competition in Practice

Professor Laffont's book illustrates the last ten years theoretical developments that explain how feasible is to encourage competition in local telephony.
As usual, theoretical developments follows technological advances that allow profitable entry in a typical natural monopoly market. Moreover, this book highlights the importance for policy makers in helping entry in this market by eliminating legal entry barriers, or in some cases subsiding new becomers.
Although this book is more oriented to policy makers than academics, I would like to have seeing more formal treatment for some of the many topics cover by professor Laffont. Nevertheless, this book represents an excellent summary of network competition literature.

Probably the best summary of the economics of access regulation in the easly chapters that you'll find anywhere (particularly after the sad passing of Jean-Jacques) and a very accessible coverage of the application of those principles to the specific case of telecommunications.
